ADCG names Recognized Cyber Risk Expert, Jody R. Westby, to Advisory Board

The Association for Data and Cyber Governance announced the appointment of Jody R. Westby to its Advisory Board.

“Jody Westby is someone to be reckoned with in the field of cyber risk and cyber governance as one of the world’s leading authorities on these subjects. In the early days of a global awakening to cybercrime, she established Cyber Risk LLC, which consults clients on vital and complex issues in this emerging subject,” said Joy Meason Intriago, Managing Director and Training Director of ADCG.

“Jody brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to ADCG, which will benefit our members. She’ll also provide and guide content that will enrich our members,” added Meason Intriago.

“Equally important is the guidance that Jody will provide to the formulation of training programs for ADCG members worldwide,” Meason Intriago said.

Westby, who is a lawyer and magna cum laude graduate of the Georgetown University Law Center, has broad expertise in cyber governance subjects. They include cybersecurity, incident response, digital asset inventories, data mapping, privacy, and cyber governance.

In the aftermath of the series of cyberattacks, her firm developed expertise in assessing industrial control and SCADA systems that are used in manufacturing, utility grids, and critical infrastructure.

Ms. Westby chairs the American Bar Association’s Privacy and Computer Crime Committee, Science and Technology Law Section; co-chairs the Criminal Justice Section’s Cybercrime Committee; and is a longtime member of the ABA President’s Cybersecurity Task Force. She launched In-Q-Tel for the Central Intelligence Agency.

She co-authored and edited four books on privacy, security, cybercrime, and enterprise security programs and authored two books published by the ABA on legal issues associated with cybersecurity. She speaks on these subjects worldwide.

The ACDG Advisory Board now has eleven members covering many disciplines in the cyber field.

Jody R. Westby

Drawing upon a unique blend of more than twenty years of technical, legal, policy, and business experience, Jody Westby founded Global Cyber Risk LLC (GCR) in 2000. GCR provides expert advisory services in several technical, legal, policy, and business subjects, including privacy, cybersecurity, cyber governance, incident response, and digital asset inventories and data mapping. Her team’s broad expertise includes an assessment of industrial control and SCADA systems used in manufacturing, utility grids, and critical infrastructure sectors.

Ms. Westby, who is a lawyer, is an adjunct professor at Georgia Tech’s School of Computer Science, a professional blogger for Forbes and a regular columnist on cybersecurity issues for Leader’s Edge magazine.

She is a member of the bars of the District of Columbia, Pennsylvania, and Colorado and is chair of the American Bar Association’s Privacy and Computer Crime Committee of the Science and Technology Law Section. She also co-chairs the Criminal Justice Section’s Cybercrime Committee and is serving a fourth term on the ABA President’s Cybersecurity Task Force.

She co-chaired the Permanent Monitoring Panel of the World Federation of Scientists on Information Security and served on the ITU Secretary General’s High-Level Experts Group on Cybersecurity.

Ms. Westby led the development of the International Toolkit on Cybercrime Legislation. She is an editor and co-author of the 2010 WFS-ITU publication, Quest for Cyber Peace. She co-authored and edited four books on privacy, security, cybercrime, and enterprise security programs and authored two books on legal issues and associated with cybersecurity research, all published by the ABA. She speaks on these issues worldwide.

Previously, she launched In-Q-Tel for the CIA was a senior managing director at Price Waterhouse Coopers, was a senior managing director at PricewaterhouseCoopers, senior fellow, and director of IT Studies for the Progress and Freedom Foundation, and director of domestic policy for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. She practiced law at Shearman and Sterling, and Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton, and Garrison.

She was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree, summa cum laude, at the University of Tulsa, and a Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, at Georgetown University Law Center, where she was named to the Order of the Coif. She was elected a member of the American Bar Foundation.
