Elected President of the Georgia Pedmont Arts Center (GPAC)
The Georgia Piedmont Arts Center(GPAC) of Winder, Ga., announces the recent election of Kathleen Gill as their new President. Gill, a long time member of GPAC, has served in the past on the Executive Committee and numerous project committees. She is a fused glass artist (www.gillglass.com) and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Arts Development Council of Georgia(www.adcg.org). Gill takes the helm at a time of transition for GPAC.
“I’m looking forward to growing the services and classes already offered by GPAC,” Gill said. “We are also actively looking for a new permanent home for the group."
The group recently moved to a temporary space in Winder where they offer adult classes in sculpture, pottery and painting on an ongoing basis. Additionally, they offer stained glass, jewelry making, and other specialized and unique learning opportunities through their visiting artist workshop programs.
GPAC is well known in the community for the children’s Summer Camp as well as children’s classes throughout the year. " Target recently awarded the group a generous grant which enables them to start an expanded Saturday children’s art class", Gill noted.
GPAC is located at 88 Griffith Street, Winder, GA 30680. For more information regarding upcoming events and classes, please visit their web site (http://www.GeorgiaPiedmontArtsCenter.com) or for information, call 770-354-8874.ADCG Newest Member: Robert Lee Hicks, Geechee Folk Artist; Townsend, Georgia
Robert is a soldier in the US Army. From his hometown, Townsend, Georga, he's been drawing all his life and paints to celebrate his Geechee heritage. Robert puts arthritis in his fingertips by pulling sheets (his "canvases") over handmade stretchers.Several of Robert's New Works on Canvas have been posted on hs Facebook Page (click). Traditionally, he's painted on sheets stretched taunt. While the color and quality of these images will make grown men shudder, the works speak for themselves. You can also view much of Robert Lee's work at http://www.georgiamadegeorgiagrown.com. Enjoy!
Specalist Robert Lee Hicks is now at Camp Spann in Afghanistan. Keep him in your prayers. Drop him notes (click) when you get a chance. He's itching to paint. He has a package of supplies on its way to him, but right now has nothing but time on his hands.
Welcome, Robert, to the Arts Development Council of Georgia. We wish you the best of success and accomplishment.
